AS AN ELIGABLE BATCHELOR ....  I AM LYING LOW TODAY     Ireland's folklore is full of wonderful, funny, strange, but sometimes out-dated traditions and in this year of 366 days, we are greeted with one of the most well-known.    Yes, it is a leap year, and although you may have thought it was a myth, according to the old Irish tradition, this is the perfect chance for a woman to take matters into her own hands and get down on one knee on February 29.    Looking back through ancient Irish history, it is said that the tradition began in 5th century Ireland when St. Brigid of Kildare bitterly complained to St. Patrick that women had to wait far too long for men to propose. Good luck to them.” Daniel has played the Brit spy for a decade, starring in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. Among those tipped to take on the role are Damian Lewis, 45, Tom Hardy, 38, Henry Cavill, 32, and Michael Fassbender, 38. Idris Elba, 43, has also been touted as the first black Bond. Purity is

JAMIE OLIVER has reacted to fears that David Cameron will reject calls for a sugar tax to help combat child obesity. Writing in The Sunday Times today, the chef urges the prime minister not to present a “lukewarm, half-hearted” plan to tackle Britain’s child obesity epidemic when he unveils his long-awaited strategy, which is expected next month. “A sugary drinks tax would be great but if we don’t get it then yes, I’ll be disappointed unless Mr Cameron comes up with a better plan,” he says. Oliver, who spent a year researching the effect of sugar consumption for Jamie’s Sugar Rush, a Channel 4 documentary, urged the prime minister to “be brave enough” to unveil a “proper battle plan”.  Last month, Cameron said it would be bette

Talk Talk - Laughing Stock - 25 Years On

After The Flood: Talk Talk's Laughing Stock 25 Years On A triumph of art over commerce or ruthless, selfish exploitation? On the 20th anniversary of its release, Wyndham Wallace looks at the complex story behind Talk Talk’s final, legendary album. Laughing Stock is the fifth and final studio album by Talk Talk. Released in 1991, it was the only album the band released on the jazz-based Verve Records, after acrimoniously leaving EMI. Like its predecessor, Spirit of Eden, the album featured improvised instrumentation from a large ensemble of musicians, including as many as seven violists on occasion, and the lyrical themes are often religious.
