Sutton United get Leeds United  after 3rd round replay comeback

AFC Wimbledon 1 Sutton United 3
Sutton United manager Paul Doswell says that his team have a “good chance” of knocking out Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United after they beat third-tier AFC Wimbledon to set up a money-spinning fourth-round home tie.
The Vanarama National League side, the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, stunned Wimbledon after coming from behind to score three late goals and add to their rich history of FA Cup upsets.
Their reward is the chance to host Leeds at Gander Green Lane, where the surface is a synthetic 3G pitch that Doswell admits will give them a further advantage. “The emotion is just one of absolute unadulterated joy,” Doswell said. “We’ve got a good chance against Leeds on our pitch because no one likes playing on our pitch apart from us.
Fitchett, left, wraps up Sutton’s victory with a cute chip
“No disrespect to Leeds but they made seven or eight changes for the Cambridge game, and if they make seven or eight changes against us then we’ve got a chance. We won’t turn up expecting to get beat.”
After a dour 0-0 in the first match, this was a considerably more eventful and feisty affair in front of a raucous crowd of 4,768 at the home of the League One club.
Sutton started brightly, belying their status two divisions below Wimbledon, and went close through Craig Eastmond and Matt Tubbs.
It wasn’t long, however, before Wimbledon asserted their authority. Dean Parrett’s free kick found Tom Elliott unmarked at the back post and he nodded past Ross Worner.
But on a frigid night, the pendulum swung again. Tubbs bamboozled centre back Paul Robinson, and bore down on goal. Robinson hauled him back and the referee brandished the red card.
“The sending-off changed the game,” Neal Ardley, the Wimbledon manager, said. “It is a big call to say that is a cast-iron red card. I’ve never seen my team so angry with the man in the middle.”
Wimbledon were forced to sacrifice winger Dom Poleon and bring on Chris Robertson to patch up their back four.
Sutton suddenly had a measure of comfort in their sorties forward on a bobbly pitch, but Wimbledon remained dangerous on the break. Former Tottenham youngster Parrett surged down the right and looked certain to test Worner, but inexplicably pulled the ball back across goal to no one. With 15 minutes remaining, Sutton’s numerical advantage told. Roarie Deacon, twisted and turned on the edge of the area, and rifled past Shea.
By now, Neal Ardley’s undermanned side were beginning to tire, and in the last minute of normal time, they crumbled. Substitute Dan Fitchett centred for Maxime Biamou, who poked in from a yard. Fitchett rounded it all off deep into stoppage time with a cute chip over James Shea.
Sutton, who famously beat Coventry in the 1989 FA Cup, now have a chance to inflict an upset to rank alongside it. Doswell said that the result would sustain Sutton financially for the next five seasons. “That was worth £300,000 for us tonight. I can’t begin to tell you how much of a difference that will make to us.”
