Revealed: Marilyn’s lost naked scene for The Misfits
Marilyn Monroe, and with Clark Gable in The Misfits
As every pub quiz enthusiast knows, the only time Marilyn Monroe took all her clothes off for the big screen was in 1962 for her unfinished film, Something’s Got to Give.
Correct? Not any longer.

It has emerged that a year earlier she exposed everything in a love scene with Clark Gable in The Misfits, a tale of three cowboys vying for one woman written by Monroe’s then husband, Arthur Miller. But director John Huston refused to include it, and the footage was thought to have been destroyed.
Now, more than half a century later, a new book reveals that it survived.
Curtice Taylor, son of Frank E Taylor, the producer of The Misfits, told author Charles Casillo that he had kept the 45 seconds of nude Monroe in a locked cabinet since his father died in 1999.
Casillo said last week: “Frank Taylor believed it was so important and so ground-breaking he saved it.” He said the script did not mention nudity: “When she did the scene, everyone was shocked.”
